What is IGF-1 LR3?

Arginine replaces glutamate at position 3, and a 13-residue extension is added at the N-terminus. Both changes reduce binding to the IGF-binding proteins that would otherwise sequester the molecule, so a greater share of it stays free in solution. That is the entire point of the LR3 designation: Long, and R at position 3.
